Jeollabuk-do has been called the home of literature or the home of arts, so this province is well known for its great scholars, poets, writers, musician, dancers and so on. Especially, as there have been many influential calligraphy artists here in Jeollabuk-do, it is often called 'the home of calligraphy' too. With the pride and strength of 'the home of calligraphy', Jeollabuk-do has held the World Calligraphy Biennale of Jeollabuk-do since 1997. Since then, the World Calligraphy Biennale of Jeollabuk-do has developed to be the world best international calligraphy festival for 15 years. In 2011, I am so happy to hold the 8th World Calligraphy Biennale of Jeollabuk-do, and I welcome all of the artists and visitors in and out of the country. In addition, I would express my heartfelt gratitude to Jeollabuk-do Government and other authorities concerned for their lavish support to open this festival.

Now, calligraphy does not stay in the Asian Chinese cultural range. It advances towards the world and is reborn as world arts. There have been lots of calligraphy clubs sprouted and prospered in many countries in Europe. Actually, the exotic artistry of the pure calligraphy itself has already attracted their attention, but calligraphy has a lot of possibilities to advance. We are developing designs using calligraphy and supporting the relevant design industry. We are planning to develop the healing industry to cure alcoholics, habitual gamblers, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder using the calligraphy's moral training feature. And we are also creating well-being programs for everyone to enjoy a healthy life doing calligraphy. When we make those projects work properly, calligraphy will become the leading form of cultural arts of the world in the 21st century. The World Calligraphy Biennale of Jeollabuk-do has done its best entertaining those possibility, hope, and expectation. The 8th 2011 World Calligraphy Biennale of Jeollabuk-do set its theme 'Dynamics' in order to advance towards the world with more dynamic resolution. We'd like to make our theme 'Dynamics' realized with more dynamic works, exhibitions, and academic conference that will illuminate the relationship between dynamic physical activities and calligraphy. We hope that not only the calligraphy artists in and out of this country but also general audiences will enjoy the calligraphy festival at the exhibition venues of the World Calligraphy Biennale of Jeollabuk-do.

Lastly, I'd express my special thanks to Jeollabuk-do Government and all the authorities concerned who have helped to hold this festival successfully, and the artists from in and out of the country who are willing to submit their great works to be displayed during the Biennale. My gratitude is also given to the Organizing Committee members who have been dedicated to the success of this festival.
